A step closer in developing a test for Tuberculosis: AHRI postdoctoral scientist is co-developer of a novel diagnostic assay ready for field evaluation

Tuberculosis ranks alongside HIV/AIDS as a leading cause of death worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 1.5 million people died from TB in 2014. The challenges in tackling the disease include that people are tested too late and that the turnaround for most tests is long. To remedy this,the WHO’s Stop TB Department identifies research and development of novel diagnostics as a research priority.

AHRI conducted a one week training on good clinical and laboratory practices (GCLP) and clinical trials. A total of 24 junior and senior researchers working in different departments of the Traditional and Modern Medicine Research Directorate of the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) participated on the training.
