Job Description: 

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian
and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got
its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy
bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for
prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through
applied and basic biomedical research and training.
AHRI would like to hire qualified candidates for the position of Junior Researcher for the Bacterial and Viral
Diseases Directorate. AHRI along with FHAPCO as the lead grantee from the Global Fund is planning to conduct
a second round National Antiretroviral Program Effectiveness Study (NAPES) at national level, and would like to
hire qualified Data Collectors for the under listed contract type and period.

The Role of the Junior Researcher (Data Collector):
The Junior Researcher (Data Collector) shall be based at the ART health facilities for a period of up to one week
per facility. The Junior Researcher will conduct data collection mostly by doing data extraction and review of
required information from ART patient records.
Specific:

Carries out interviews with ART providers and with due respect for privacy and confidentiality

Generates and selects sampled MRN (Medical record number) of ART patients in the facility along with
AHRI’s data manager and the field team

Identifies eligible ART patients from randomly sampled records from the total ART patient data frame
along with the facility data clerk, based on the randomly selected patient MRN

Review records of ART patients and select those that have been at least one year since they have
initiated ART at the time of data collection
- Analyses registers of those selected clients and extracts required information from them
- Enters, manages and keeps patient data on redcap based tool using tablet
- Reports daily to the field coordinator and sends data online to AHRI’s central server

Adheres to ethical conduct of patient data confidentiality and human subject data protection, and
handles patient data with utmost privacy and confidentiality

Writes field reports, as well as attends and actively participates in team meetings and discussions during
the period of stay at each facility
- Communicates promptly with field coordinator on any bottlenecks arising (technical or managerial)
- Actively participates in the planning and coordination of logistics in the field

Participates in data cleaning and contributes to the data analysis if needed, with support from the
national NAPES team
Job Requirement
Qualification

BSc degree in Nursing or Health Officer or Public Health from an accredited with minimum cGPA of 3.00
for Male & 2.75 for Females.
