Pathology Unit

Background

AHRI pathology unit is providing its service based on the wayof supporting AHRI’s core mission. The unit is involved in there harmonized activities:

  • Scientific Researches,
  • Training and experience sharing of students and visitors ,and
  • Delivery of diagnostic service.

The unit’s laboratory is equipped with up-to-date instruments, i.e. Automatic Vacuum Tissue processor, Microtomes, Tissues embedding consoles and Cryostats. There is well organized sample storage area (Paraffin embedded as well as Frozen Tissues) and a system of maintaining lab results in both hard and electronic copies.

Major Area of the Research

Currently the unit is mainly involved in the basic Histopathology and Cytopathology related activities. The unit is planning the way to expand its area of activities including Molecular-pathology, Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and Immunocytochemistry (ICC).

  • Innate immunity in cutaneous Leishmaniasis
  • Diagnostic Performance of Light-Emitting Diode (LED) Fluorescence based Microscope for the diagnosis of Tuberculous Lymphadenitis from Fine Needle Aspirate.
  • Evaluation of the Diagnostic Potential of Auramine O Staining for the Diagnosis of PB Leprosy, Molecular Typing and Assessment of Drug Resistance of M.leprae
  • Immunopathology of Erythema NodosumLeprosum (ENL)

Diagnostic

The lab is providing free support for ALERT Hospital clients (Clients came to the hospital in the normal service time). These diagnostic services provided for the clients are basic Histopathology and Cytopathology diagnosis.
