Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has launched a state-of-the-art research complex at the Armauer Hansen Research Institute, marking a major step forward for Ethiopia’s and Africa’s scientific ecosystem.
The facility features 40 laboratories, advanced genomics and bioinformatics platforms, and a bioequivalence center to certify the quality and effectiveness of locally produced medicines.

It also strengthens the country’s capacity for health emergency preparedness and response.
More than just infrastructure, the complex is designed as a center of excellence—transforming research into policy and innovation into practical solutions.

It aims to advance self-sufficiency in pharmaceutical production, enhance health security, and support Ethiopia’s broader push for independence in key sectors.
The launch signals a new chapter in building a resilient, innovation-driven health system for Ethiopia and across Africa.
