The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) have strengthened their strategic partnership following a high-level bilateral meeting and tour of AHRI’s new laboratory complex in Addis Ababa.
Dr. Alemseged Abdissa, Deputy Director General of AHRI, welcomed the Africa CDC delegation led by Dr. Mosoka Fallah, Director of the Science and Innovation Directorate. During the visit, Dr. Fallah praised AHRI’s remarkable transformation, describing the new laboratory complex as a major asset for Ethiopia and Africa that will enhance clinical research, innovation, and public health preparedness.
The discussions focused on expanding collaboration in clinical research training, ethics and regulatory science, laboratory networks, genomics, digital health, artificial intelligence (AI), traditional medicine research, clinical research capacity development, and joint grant applications. Africa CDC also emphasized the importance of engaging AHRI scientists in its technical working groups, particularly in priority areas such as antimicrobial resistance.
Dr. Alemseged thanked the Africa CDC delegation for their continued partnership, noting that the meeting identified several practical actions to strengthen collaboration and advance Africa-led scientific innovation and research.
The visit marks another important milestone in the growing partnership between AHRI and Africa CDC and reflects their shared commitment to building resilient research systems and improving Africa’s capacity to respond to current and future public health challenges.
