AHRI conducted a one week training on good
clinical and laboratory practices (GCLP) and clinical trials. A total of
24 junior and senior researchers working in different departments of the
Traditional and Modern Medicine Research Directorate of the Ethiopian Public
Health Institute (EPHI) participated on the training. Topics of the training
involved concepts on principles of GCLP and its implementation in biomedical
research, the need for public health research, principles of biosafety,
fundamental principles of research ethics, conflict of interest and management,
research misconduct, different phases of clinical trials, bridging studies from
pre-clinical to clinical trials, the roles and responsibilities of major
stakeholders in the conduct of clinical trials, clinical trial designs,
statistical assumptions and considerations in clinical trials and clinical
trial protocol development. The training was facilitated and organized by AHRI
with different expertise based in the Institute and other institutions.
