On 14 March 2017, Grand Challenges Ethiopia, in collaboration with Health and Post Graduate directorate of Jimma University Institute of Health (JUIH) held an orientation workshop at Jimma University with the Vice President, Vice President of Research and Community, Directorate of Health Research and Post Graduate of JUIH and participants from different departments of JUIH present.
Dr. Zeleke Mekonnen, Director of Health Research and Post Graduate of JUIH, started the workshop with a welcome and introduction note.
Dr. Geremew Tarekegne, Grand Challenges Ethiopia Coordinator, introduced the essence and objectives of the initiative, explained the concept of health innovation the initiative is centered on and shared examples. Types of funding opportunities available to the institution and individuals under its affiliation, current and coming calls and application procedures were also discussed. This year’s priority areas of innovations and their terms were outlined, questions and concerns raised by participants were addressed.
