Our own Dr. Tore Godal has been awarded the Norwegian King’s Medal of Merit, Oslo, Norway on 23 Nov 2019. Dr. Tore Godal was the Director of AHRI from 1970 to 73 when he did extraordinary research on Leprosy Immunology and Drug Resistance. His work not only helped us to understand the immunology of Leprosy but also improved the treatment of the debilitating disease. Because of his work, leprosy is now a fully treatable disease. He is also recognized for his enormous contribution in Global Health. The person who served as the Director of TDR/WHO, who founded GAVI (Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization), help founded Roll-Back Malaria, and recently CEPI (Coalition for Emergency Preparedness Innovation). He was praised as “The only Norwegian who saved the lives of Millions of Children worldwide”. Congratulations Tore! You deserve it!
