As a research institute committed to enhancing the skill set of its staff and students, the Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Research Directorate has successfully conducted a master class training on ‘Next-generation sequencing and Bioinformatics’ which spanned from February 14-18, 2022.
The training which was conducted at AHRI premises saw students (Ph.D. and MSc) and staff being exposed to wet lab practicals on sequencing, with analysis of the same being provided in a Bioinformatics class.
Comments on the training from participants.
“It is exciting that such kind of opportunities more so on genomics sequencing research and Bioinformatics are provided at such a high level for Ph.D. students here in Ethiopia.”
Yeshiwork Abebaw, Microbiology Ph.D. student at AAU
“This training will help a lot in my future Ph.D. more so in the areas of data analysis and manipulation. Moreover, through this training, I have been able to familiarize myself with the required techniques in the molecular lab, and areas of bioinformatics and sequencing.”
Gebeyehu Assefa, Associate Researcher I (AHRI)
“As a clinician, my exposure to lab work is a limited one. This training has given me a great introduction to next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics. The training will be helpful in my lab work, for my thesis titled, ‘Variations in non-coding genome of T2D patients in Addis Ababa’.”
Nathanel Tezera, MD, MSc student in Medical Biochemistry at AAU
