The entire AHRI family is saddened by the passing of Dr. Fisseha H/Meskel, AHRI’s former Acting Director from May 1999 – June 2002.
Dr. Fisseha, who after receiving his Bachelors in Biology from Addis Ababa University, had great zeal to pursue his studies abroad and thus completed his MSc. Biology from New York University (USA), coupled by an MSc in Public Health from the University of Michigan (USA). Passionate about enhancing his knowledge on parasites and parasitic diseases, Dr. Fisseha obtained his PHD in Parasitology from the University of Bergen (Norway).
Dr. Fisseha is remembered as a humble teacher who sought to always mentor and empower others. He pursued a career as a lecture at Addis Ababa University where he taught Biology and mentored numerous researchers. In the process, he published Amharic books on Ethiopian wildlife, as well as on principles of heredity; in addition to several peer reviewed research articles.
Dr. Fisseha’s love for the community around him, led him to found ADHENO in 2003 – an Integrated Rural Development Association and NGO with a driven purpose of contributing toward the alleviation of extreme poverty in North Shoa, one of the poorest regions of the country.
From all the staff at AHRI, we would like to convey our sincerest condolences to the family of Dr. Fisseha H/Meskel. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
