AHRI’s junior researchers together with trainees from University of Gondar, Jimma University and the Ethiopia Public Health Institute per take in a comprehensive grant writing course from March 6-11, 2023 in Addis Ababa.
Cognizant of the limited experiences in grant writing which to a degree hampers funding, the hands-on grant writing training was organized to support; early-career, promising southern researchers on grant writing skills and to assist them in developing research proposals to apply for project funding (e.g. for calls from WHO, RSTMH, MRC for early career researchers from low and middle income countries; or for local grants from Ethiopian institutions).
Throughout the week-long session, the trainees were exposed to various elements of grant writing skills including coming up with novel ideas, identifying the right funder, data management, and preparing project budgets.
AHRI is grateful for the indelible support provided by;
Trainers: Dr. Ermias Diro (University of Washington, USA), Dr. Myrthe Pareyn (Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp, Belgium) as well as virtual mentors from the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp who aided in reviewing the trainee grant proposals.
Funder: Directorate General Development Cooperation (DGD) Framework Agreement 5 (FA5) Ethiopia.
