Federal Civil Service Commissioner visited AHRI

A delegation led by H.E. Dr. Mekuria Haile; Federal Civil Service Commissioner along with H.E. Mrs Simegn Wube, Deputy Commissioner, H.E. Mr. Tsega Aragie, Deputy Commissioner and other leaders and senior experts of the commission visited Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) on 25 January 2024.

Prof. Afework Kassu, Director General of AHRI accompanied by leaders and senior experts of the institute welcomed the delegation. The visit commenced by Prof. Afework’s briefing about the institute including historical background of 54 years, contributions made and policy changes brought by the institute and supports needed from the federal Civil Service Commission to enhance execution of mandates entrusted to AHRI. In addition, the delegation visited research laboratories, the Apopo HeroRats which detect presence of ‘Mycobacterium tuberculosis’, the causative bacteria for a disease called ‘Tuberculosis’, in sputum samples and the new Office, Lab and Training Complex Building of AHRI.

Finally, a discussion was led by H.E. Dr. Mekuria and Prof. Afework between the leaders and senior experts of the commission and AHRI to have common understanding on areas of support and mutual collaborations. The leaders agreed to develop a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to deepen and sustain collaborations and address existing and emerging needs of mutual interest. H.E. Dr. Mekuria Haile, gave a direction to the leadership of AHRI to articulate structural readjustment needs of the institute and submit to the commission for consideration.
